The sanction history of a contractor

The SECOP sanctions lookup gathers the fines and sanctions that public entities report in Colombia Compra Eficiente's open procurement data. Each record carries the sanctioning entity with its NIT, level and order, the municipality, the resolution number, the contractor's name, the number of the sanctioned contract, the value of the sanction, the publication date and the date the sanction became final (fecha de firmeza), plus a link to the process. For a credit or legal team this is a direct adverse signal, useful in counterparty review before contracting, awarding or disbursing.

Common questions

01Where does this information come from?
From SECOP open data, Colombia's public procurement system managed by Colombia Compra Eficiente. These are the fines and sanctions reported by the contracting entities themselves, and they are public by law. Croma queries that source and returns the records structured.
02Is it free? Are there any limits?
Yes, it is free and needs no account. There is a cap on requests per minute from the same connection, and each lookup returns up to 500 records: if that cap is hit, we flag the result as incomplete. For volume, use the Croma API.
03No sanctions came back. Is the contractor clean?
Not necessarily. An empty result only means this SECOP register holds no fines or sanctions tied to that document, it is not a clean bill of health. Check the number is typed correctly, try the other document (the company NIT or the legal representative's cédula) and complement it with disciplinary, fiscal and judicial records.
04Is a SECOP sanction a criminal record?
No. It is an administrative act: a public entity fined or sanctioned a contractor within a state contract, with a resolution number and a date it became final. It is not a criminal conviction or a debarment, which live in different registries.
